12 Things You Need to Know About the Trip
1. Why. To equip/train at least 12 New Life SDA Church members on how to engage and empower their community using the Rise Up strategy by August 26, 2023.
2. How. The training we provide will take place during a Friday Evening Vespers, Sabbath School, Worship Service, and Sabbath Outreach. A program outline will be developed in advance and shared with everyone going on the trip prior to the trip.
3. When. Depart at 6:00am Thursday, August 24 and return Sunday, August 27 by 10:00pm.
4. Where. New Life SDA Church, 7401 Muncaster Mill Road, Gaithersburg, MD 20877
5. Who. This trip is open to all Harbor of Hope members. Because the purpose of this trip is to teach and train others on outreach, priority will be given to those who have faithfully participated in Harbor of Hope outreach programs this summer’s Operation Safe Space. We currently have space for 20 volunteers to ride in the vans. If we exceed that number, we will try to create more spaces and open it up to more people.
6. Cost. There is no fee for the trip, but you must bring money to pay for your food.
7. Meals. New Life SDA Church will provide a meal for us on Friday evening and Sabbath after worship service. As for food for when we are traveling on the road to Maryland and return home from Maryland, everyone will be responsible for their own food.
8. Transportation. Personal vehicles can be driven if desired. Note that persons driving personal vehicles are responsible for their own gas and liability.
9. Clothing. Bring your Harbor of Hope shirts and a change of clothing for Friday, Sabbath, and Sunday.
10. Housing. New Life will provide housing accommodations at their church. This means we would be sleeping at their church. We can bring tents, sleeping bags, pillows, etc.
11. Showers. There is a shower at the church. We will also have the option of going to the local YMCA or Planet Fitness.
12. Explore. If our schedules allow on Sabbath after outreach and/or Sunday, we will take some time to explore the D.C. area and enjoy a nice restaurant.
